FLASHLIGHTS

Q: What are ANSI/NEMA STANDARDS?

A: Developed with the guidance of the American National Standards Institute, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association and representatives from 14 companies in the portable lighting industry, these standards help rate and compare the most important features of personal lighting tools.

Below is a link with the complete list of features covered by ANSI/NEMA FL 1 Standards, along with the icon that represents that feature. Participating flashlight companies show these icons on their packaging with a rating that tells you how the light performed. This rating system is particularly helpful because you can compare brightness, beam distance, impact resistance, runtime, water resistance, and more. Adherence to these standards and reporting results is strictly voluntary; and each flashlight company that participates in this rating system conducts its own tests following specific guidelines.

Q: Will the 2413 PL shroud work with the Nemo™ 2410 LED recoil and still be waterproof to 100m?

A: Yes, as long as the O-ring is not removed.

Q: Will rechargeable batteries work with the Nemo™ 2010 flashlight?

A: If using rechargeable batteries from a store other than Pelican™, they may slow the performance of the light, but they will work.

Q: If a customer is ordering the 8059 REPLACEMENT BATTERY PACK for the M11™ 8050 Flashlight and it does not fit in their existing flashlight . . .

A: Customers experiencing this problem are directed to call the factory @ 1-800-473-5422,ext 1374. They'll need to get an RMA and will be directed to send their light (and new battery) back to the factory as directed.  Pelican™ will either replace the flashlight or fix the problem.

Q: What types of lamps do the flashlights use?

A: Lamps are gas filled with Xenon, Halogen, or Krypton gas or they are high intensity LEDs.  It varies by model.

Q: What is RECOIL LED TECHNOLOGY™?

A: By mounting and pointing the LED backwards into the reflector, 100% of the light is captured and reflected forward.  The result is a true collimated beam with brightness that rivals incandescents.  (Collimated light is light whose rays are parallel, and therefore will spread minimally as it propagates in a beam.  A perfectly collimated beam, with no divergence, would not disperse with distance.) This LED technology has been updated and the Recoil LEDs are being phased out.

Q: I need accessories and parts for the old style 9410 LED Lantern.  What do I do?

A: Pelican™ has discontinued the 9410 LED Lantern, but if you send your light to Pelican™, they will upgrade the light to the new 9410L LED version.

Q: Are the charging cords for the discontinued 9450B RALS still available?

A: No.  Pelican™ no longer offers the charging cords for the 9450B RALS.  They have depleted their stock and will not make more as the lighting unit has been discontinued since 2010.

CASES

Q: What are the cases made of?

A: The cases are made of a polypropylene copolymer material (a complex plastic compound) that is lightweight, durable, and highly chemical resistant.

Q: Can the Pelican™ cases be ordered without the Pelican™ Logo on them?

A: Yes.  All the cases currently listed on the CaseDealer.com website include the Pelican™ logo.  However, the NO LOGO cases are available.  Any NO LOGO case requested is considered a custom order, and the lead time as such is 4 – 6 weeks.

Q: Can cases be ordered in colors other than what is listed on the website?

A: Some additional/optional colors are available, BUT any optional color is considered custom and there are minimum ordering requirements (1000 ea for Pelican™ Standard and 100 ea for Pelican™ Storm).  If you want a Storm case in a different color, please refer to the list of equivalent cases to see if its equivalent is offered in the color needed.

Q: Are the cases watertight?

A: Yes.  There is an o-ring in the lid and a Gore-Tex® membrane in the pressure equalization valve that keep water out of the case.

Q: How does the Pressure Equalization Valve work?

A: The Pressure Equalization Valve is a simple device. It consists of a housing with a hole through it that is covered with a thin Gore-Tex® membrane.  The membrane continuously allows the free passage of gases and vapors, equalizing the pressure differential between the enclosure and ambient atmosphere before pressure builds to the point that the O-ring seal is compromised.  Water, dust and dirt are repelled by the hydrophobic membrane, thereby protecting expensive and sensitive electronics.

Q: If a customer needs a 2370 empty case and we have a 2370 case with a computer tray in stock, can the computer tray be removed to sell the empty case?

A: No.  The computer tray is glued to the base of the case, and if removed, we could not sell that tray as it would most likely be damaged during removal.

Q: What differences are there between the Pelican™ and Pelican™ Storm Case™ Lid Organizers?

A: Pelican™ Lid Organizers come with screws to attach the organizer in the case lid; whereas the Pelican™ Storm Case Lid Organizers come with Velcro strips to attach the organizer to the lid.

Q: Can a customer purchase replacement wheels for their case?

A: Yes.  Most Storm Cases™ use the same wheels regardless of the size of the case.  We have replacement wheels in stock and up to two sets can ship via USPS Priority Mail.  The wheels are free—the customer need only pay the postage to receive them. The customer can also send their case to the Pelican factory as wheel replacement falls under the lifetime warranty.

Q: Are there any adhesives or spray paints that work on the cases?

A: 3M’s DP-8005 two part adhesive works very well.  Krylon’s Fusion paint claims to adhere to polyolefin-based materials like polypropylene.  However, we have not tested it.  We recommend testing it in an inconspicuous part of the case before coating the outer face of the case.

Q: Can the TSA LOCK be used on both Pelican™ Cases and Pelican Storm Cases™?

A: Yes.

Q: Are there factory drawings that show the dimensions and corner radius’of the cases?

A: You may be able to find them at this website:  https://www.pelican.com/us/en/professional/cad-downloads/terms-and-conditions/

Q: What temperatures can the cases tolerate?

A: The cases will withstand temperatures from -10° F (-23.3° C) to 210° F (98.9° C).

Q: Are there weight limits to the cases?

A: According to the Pelican™ Engineering Department, the weight actually depends on the handle and its tensile strength.  Smaller case handles are approved up to 50 lbs and larger case handles are approved up to 100 lbs.

FOAM and CUSTOM FOAM

Q: What is the size of the individual cubes in the Pick N Pluck™ foam?

A: The individual cubes are half an inch by half an inch by the depth of each layer.

Q: What type of foam is used for custom foam projects?

A: We primarily use a closed-cell polyethylene foam for custom foam projects.  This foam can withstand oils and water much better than the standard foam.  We also have the convoluted lid foam and the softer polyurethane foam, but prefer not to cut detailed shapes in the polyurethane foam.

Q: Which cases use the Pick N Pluck™ foam as standard foam?

A: The iM2050 – iM3075 cases and all Pelican™ cases except the 0500/0550/1700/1720/1750 use the Pick N Pluck™ foam as the standard foam sent in the cases.  This foam is an open-cell polyester material(not polyethylene).

Q: Which cases use solid foam as the standard?

A: The iM3100 – iM3300 cases and the Pelican™ 0500/0550/1700/1720/1750 cases use a solid, non-cubed foam as the standard foam sent in the cases. This foam is an open-cell polyester foam (not polyethylene).

Q: What types of foam do we have available for custom foam projects?

A: The following are considered standard:

1.    PE (Hard Foam) will have a density weight of 2 lbs.

2.    PU (Soft Foam),generally for the body of a case will have a density weight of 1.7 lbs.

3.    PU (Convolute, SoftFoam), for the lid of a case generally will have a density weight of 1.3 lbs.

4.    And if you have a specific need or would like more alternatives, just ask.  We have access to specialty foams and materials as well.

Q: What is the process for custom foam requests?

A: Most individuals do not have the appropriate software to create drawings for custom foam.  We have “grids” or templates of the interior dimensions of all cases.  The grids are printed onto tear proof paper to the size of the specific case being used.  We mail the grid to the customer via USPS and send them a prepaid return label to return the completed grid to us – at no cost to the customer.  The customer will lay out the grid on a flat surface and literally trace around the objects they want in the case, i.e. guns, radios, laptops, etc.  Once we receive the completed grid, the General Manager will quote a price for the custom foam, and lid foam if needed.  If the customer approves the pricing, the grid is digitized and sent to the cutting machine.  Upon completion of the cutting the Engineering Team reviews the product to ensure accuracy and the foam is prepared for shipment.  Based on the quantity needed and cutting intricacy, cutting time varies from as little as 1 – 2 days.

Q: What types of foam are offered as standard foam in the cases?

A: The Pelican™ cases use a 1.3 lb Polyurethane foam and the Storm cases use a 1.7 pcf Polyester foam.  (pcf = pounds per cubic foot)
